The Management Plan aims to protect all waters within the district and, where necessary, improve waters and achieve sustainable water use.
Waters include rivers, canals, lakes, reservoirs, groundwaters, protected areas (including wetlands and other water-dependent ecosystems), estuaries (transitional) and coastal waters.
Information on waterbody status, objectives and measures in the South Western RBD has been compiled into smaller, more manageable geographical areas than river basin districts, termed Water Management Units (WMUs). Submissions Digest
The Draft RBMP for the SWRBD was published on the 22nd December 2008, and consultation on the draft plan took place from 22nd December 2008 to 22nd June 2009. Stakeholders and the public were invited to submit comments in relation to the draft plan through notices placed in national and local newspapers, through national and local radio, and through a number of river basin district, local authority and agency websites.
